A resin-bound driveway is a long-term investment that instantly boosts your home's kerb appeal and value. But its longevity and flawless finish depend almost entirely on the quality of the installation.

So, how do you sort the skilled professionals from the corner-cutters? At resco.ie, we believe in empowering our customers. Here is your quick guide to picking the perfect resin driveway installer.

1. The Experience & Portfolio Check

Resin installation is a specialised skill. Don't assume every driveway contractor is an expert.

  • Look for Specialisation: Ask how many resin projects they complete annually. A

company that specialises in resin is generally better equipped than a generalist paving

company.

  • Request a Portfolio: Ask to see photos of recently completed local projects. Better

yet, ask for addresses of nearby driveways so you can see the quality of their work

and finish in person. A good installer is proud to show off their finished work!

  • Check Credentials: Confirm they are fully insured (especially Public Liability) and

check for any trade body memberships or manufacturer-approved training.

2. The Materials Matter

A beautiful driveway starts with premium ingredients. The best installation in the world won't last if the materials are poor.

  • Ask About the Resin: Insist on UV-stable resin. Cheaper, non-UV stable resins will

yellow or discolour over time, ruining the aesthetic.

  • Inquire About the Aggregates: Ensure the stone aggregates are high-quality, clean,

and properly sourced. The size and type must be suitable for driveway use (usually 3-

5mm).

  • Check the Thickness: A professional standard thickness for a domestic resin-bound

driveway is generally 18mm or 20mm. A quote for a thinner layer is a red flag for

cutting corners.

3. The Groundwork Question (The Most Crucial Step)

The base is the foundation of your resin driveway. If the base moves, the resin will crack.

  • Ask for the Process: Do not accept an installer who plans to simply lay resin over an old, damaged, or unstable surface. A professional quote must include clear details on base preparation (e.g., excavation, sub-base compaction, or ensuring the existing surface is sound).

  • Drainage Plan: A quality resin-bound system is permeable and meets SuDS

(Sustainable Urban Drainage System) requirements, but the base must also be

prepared to allow for proper drainage. Ask about their drainage solution.

4. Reviews, Quotes, and Guarantees

This is where you secure your investment and peace of mind.

  • Read Verified Reviews: Check independent review sites (Google, Trustpilot) for

consistent feedback on communication, timeliness, and aftercare, not just the star

rating.

  • Compare Quotes Carefully: Get at least three detailed, written quotes. Don't just pick the cheapest. Compare what is included: base work, edging, resin type (UV

stable?), thickness, and guarantee. A suspiciously low price nearly always means

something is being skipped.

  • Demand a Guarantee: A reputable installer will provide a robust, written guarantee

covering both materials and workmanship (often 5-10 years or more). This provides

your safety net against loose stones or cracking due to installation faults.
