You've invested in a beautiful, durable resin-bound driveway from resco.ie—congratulations! Now, keeping that stunning, seamless surface looking brand new is incredibly easy.

The best part about resin driveways is their low maintenance. Here’s a short, sweet guide to ensuring your drive remains pristine for years to come.

1. Simple, Regular Cleaning (The Weekly Sweep)

The most effective way to maintain your driveway's look is regular, light cleaning.

  • Sweep or Blow: Use a stiff-bristled broom or a leaf blower to remove loose debris, leaves, and dirt weekly or bi-weekly. This prevents organic material from breaking down and staining the surface.

  • Hose Down: Give the entire area a good wash with a garden hose once a month. Since resin-bound driveways are permeable, water drains right through, making the process quick and efficient.

2. Tackling Spills and Stains (Act Fast!)

While resin is highly resistant, it's always best to deal with spills immediately.

  • Oil and Petrol: If you notice a drip from your car, try to clean it up right away. Use warm water and a small amount of mild detergent (like washing-up liquid) and scrub gently with a soft brush.

  • Moss and Algae: Because the surface is porous, moss or algae can occasionally try to grow. Treat the area with a specialist moss/algae killer (available at most hardware stores) and rinse thoroughly afterwards.

Important Note: Avoid using oil-based or harsh chemical cleaners, as these can damage the resin binder. Stick to mild soaps.

3. The Power Washer (Use with Caution)

You can pressure wash your resin driveway, but you must follow two simple rules to protect the surface:

  • Keep Your Distance: Always hold the nozzle at least 20 cm (8 inches) away from the surface.

  • Use Low Pressure: Do not use high-pressure settings. A maximum of 150 bar (2175 PSI) is recommended to avoid dislodging the aggregates.

4. Winter Care (Dealing with Ice and Snow)

Resin is tough against the elements, but winter requires a little care:

  • De-icing: Standard rock salt will not harm your resin driveway, though it's often not needed as the porous surface prevents large ice sheets from forming. If you must use a de-icer, ensure it is fully dissolved or sweep up any residue afterwards.

  • Snow Removal: Use a plastic or rubber-edged shovel to clear snow. Avoid metal shovels or sharp objects, as these can scratch or chip the surface.
